Pastor David L. Featherstone is the Pastor of the Greater Second Baptist Church. His passion for the preaching and teaching of God's word encourages this fellowship of believers to focus on "Making the Main Thing, the Main Thing."
Pastor Featherstone is the son of the late Willie and Mary Featherstone. He is the 4th child of 9, born in Blackfish Lake, Arkansas.
He is the proud husband of Azzie "Mae" Featherstone and has been celebrating this marriage for over 40 years. Upon his graduation from Hughes High School in Hughes, Arkansas, in 1971, David Featherstone attended AM&N/UAPB. He graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he took a job in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas as the manager of Minute Man Old Fashioned Restaurant on 4th & Broadway, from 1975-1977. In 1978, he took another management position where he managed Wendy’s of Little Rock restaurant until the latter half of 1979. While living and working in Little Rock, Pastor Featherstone united, as a new member, with Greater Second Baptist Church on September 30, 1979. As an avid participant in and advocate for Sunday school. In 1980, he took a job with the State of Arkansas, serving as the 1st black auditor for the Arkansas Revenue Division of the Department of Finance and Administration. Pastor Featherstone continued growing personally and professionally. Over time he became very successful in his auditor position, working and traveling to every corner of the state however he found a divine compulsion to explore greater opportunities. In 1981, God led him to establish a fledgling business called Mr. Klean’s Carpet & Janitorial Services, Inc. After a short period of time, God blessed him with the courage and direction to resign from his job, take a giant leap of faith, and become a full-time, self-employed director an ever-expanding janitorial service. Yet, God was not through with him yet. Pastor Featherstone received and accepted his calling into the preaching ministry in 1982. He was ordained as a minister by Dr. Curtis Ridout on January 29, 1989. Pastor Featherstone often speaks on his relationship with and his view that one of his greatest life's blessings has been, having the opportunity of learning from and being under the pastoral ministry of Dr. Curtis Ridout. In 1990 Pastor Featherstone relinquished his position with the State of Arkansas before embarking on a pastorate with New Light Baptist Church in Helena, AR, where he served with distinction from 1990 to 1997. In 1997 he was called to return to Greater Second Baptist where he resumed his faithful service to God and GSBC alongside his mentor, Dr. Curtis Ridout. Upon the passing of Dr. Ridout in 2009, God elevated and assigned Pastor Featherstone as the Under Shepherd of the Greater Second Baptist Church on April 11, 2010. As a pastor, David Featherstone has learned a great many things. He reminds this flock that humility and gratitude are among the many divine virtues God gives his children. Pastor Featherstone has a great passion for the preaching and teaching of God's word. Along with his unique teaching style, his sermons contain startling insights with fresh commentary enabling the members to understand and apply God's word in their lives. During his years as a servant of Christ, his God-ordained service has touched the lives of many seeking God's restoration.
At Greater Second Baptist Church we have always been a "Going Church for a Coming Lord," where we encourage believers to "Move from Membership to Discipleship" focusing on "Making the Main Thing, the Main Thing."
